Description
This is a handmade 1 1/2" scale live steam duplex water pump. Four of these pumps were handmade for use on Live steam 1 1/2" scale locomotive. The photos show one on the side board of my 4-4-0. I run my engine at 100 PSI and this pump will pump water into my boiler, using steam pressure and overcoming boiler pressure at the check valve. Steam side bore is estimated at 5/8" and pump bore at 1/2". I really do not want to disassemble this pump to verify these dimensions. The other photos show the one you will be getting. The 2 long curved tubes are water suction and discharge tubes for testing purposes and will be included. The lower shorter tube is the suction side, the top is discharge. On compressed air this pump is flawless and performs perfectly. This pump has never seen steam, but the one on my engine works perfectly. This is a generic example of the classic duplex design, where the stroke of one cylinder shuttles the valve for the other cylinder, and so on it goes. The ball check valves for the pump end are completely serviceable, as well as all timing adjustments and shaft packing. This pump uses no castings, and is hand fabricated entirely of brass and steel. Any soldered joints are done with silver solder. It is a true work of machining genius. Dimensions are 6" long, 2 3/16" wide, 2 3/4" tall excluding plumbing.
