Description
New Page 1 Welcome to the wide wonderful world of Contemporary Art Glass Marbles. Why marbles? See below. Today consider this Time Warp marble, hand-formed from borosilicate glass by myself here in my home studio, i.e. John Bridges of Black Fire Glassworks here in Eugene, Oregon. This propulsive orb measures ~1 3/4" (45mm) in diameter and is signed "JSB 11-08". It belongs to the family of marbles that I call Vortexia Perplexia. It is carefully rounded and annealed most thoroughly for structural integrity. It is "Time Warp" like electromagnetic energy pulsing through infinity. This one represents a galactic leap forward for the Vortexias! For awhile I've puzzled on whether it was possible to have two-layer or double vortex with contrasting curved and straight lines, and I'm pleased to announce that it is indeed possible. It's always pleasing when perfect polar opposites can be brought together in one sphere. Am I being abstruse? What I'm describing is most easily seen in the first image, the top view. You will notice that the center vortex consists of curved lines in a classic array, and the background vortex is composed of a straight line design, pointing directly to infinity. "Is that all?" you may say, but oh what a bizarre technical challenge, just the type that keeps us marble makers up at night. This whole sphere glows with a wonderful rainbow hue that isn't even fully appreciable in these few images, and the forms are more defined and easily discernable in hand. Shipping is FREE as always in the USA, unless you desire something more powerful than Priority Mail. If you desire international shipping I'll credit you an amount equal to Priority shipping in the USA. Thanks for looking!!!!! Please enjoy my bio and image gallery of past work: John Bridges on Glassartists.org WHY MARBLES?Contemporary Art Glass Marbles are modern day gems made by human hands. Simple spheres filled with beauty and wonder, and each one original, they possess a magic unto themselves that make them the perfect gift for all occasions, and perfectly fit to be handed down through generations. They are rooted in the tradition of gaming marbles but have shot over the horizon and have been touched by the brilliance of the stars.Marbles differ from most forms of glass art in that they are specifically art to be handled, engaged, rolled, spun. They are the only form of glass art that possess dynamic energy in that they will roll away if you don't find a way to pin them down. Spin them for an amazing show of living texture in transformation, striking a balance and moving on.Marble gazing has a way of transporting the gazer out of their surroundings, sending them floating off to some celestial sphere of wavering form and texture. Carry that special one around with you in your pocket, and you are armed with a way to instantly turn down the noise and clamor of the world for a few moments of precious weightlessness.Gazing at a marble is strangely similar to pondering a memory, and as such, marbles symbolize those moments and faces that compose who we are. Our lives at long last are like a bag of marbles, and in this way everyone is a marble collector. ENJOY!
