CARL BARKS original oil painting "Scrooges Old Castle" Start Price USD 125,000.00 Current Price USD 125,000.00 Time Left - Bid Count 0 Buy It Now Price - Reserve Price - Start Time Thursday, July 03, 2008 End Time Sunday, July 13, 2008 Location San Francisco, CA See more about 'CARL BARKS original oil painting "Scrooges Old Castle"' Description ORIGINAL OIL PAINTING  by Carl Barks (1901 – 2000). 16 x 20 inches on Masonite.  Although Carl painted 17 Money Bins between 1971 and 1976, by far his MOST POPULAR paintings were reproductions of his DONALD DUCK comic book covers, which he did 30 times!  This auction offers one of Carl’s rarest oils for bid, but all bidders must be pre-approved by the Seller, and the item is subject to prior sale. “Scrooge’s Old Castle”  (21-72)  re-creates the cover of 4C #189, and has never been offered to the public before.  While Carl’s editors didn’t want him to include Scrooge (or Daisy, etc) on the covers of Donald Duck comics, Carl was eager to do so when he re-created this comic cover because the comic was the very FIRST Barks story to star Uncle Scrooge (Scrooge was only a supporting character  in 4C #178 “Christmas on Bear Mountain”). This was the ONLY Masonite painting ever done of “The Old Castle’s Secret” cover and the 1948 comic book was the VERY FIRST comic book COVER that Carl Barks ever did  (pre-dating WDC+S #95 by three months).  The original owner of the painting kept this masterpiece for 35 years.
