Description
On3 Scale brass Precision Scale Denver & Rio Grande Western D&RGW 375 C-25 Little Mudhen 2-8-0. Nothing stirs the imagination of a Rio Grande true believer like a rods-down outside frame engine working a mixed train. The sound of that whistle calling for signals at Needleton must have been something wonderful to behold. This is a one-off engine acquired by the D&RG, originally built by Baldwin for the Crystal River Railroad as their 103, after their demise in 1916. It became a local Durango fixture and hauled the Silverton mixed for many years. PSC did itself proud with this engine. Lots of distinctive Rio Grande features grace this piece, especially the neat domes, the huge cross-compound air compressor with all that piping, opening sand dome cover, the extended headlight, neat outside frame lead truck, flanger air cylinder on the pilot deck and the benchmark tender which rides on those distinctive arch bar trucks. Even the interior of the tender coal compartment is detailed. Engine and tender sport full brake gear. The removable deckless cab is loaded with detail, has all working cab doors and roof hatch and even the rod to the cylinder cocks. There is very little wear anywhere. This engine represents narrow-gauge consolidation power at its finest and with freight cars and a combine leading the caboose it would be the pride of any operation. A wonderful prototype locomotive masterfully rendered by a great builder that became a true classic. The power is through a cast idler gearbox driven by a Canon motor and it proved nicely balanced in my bench test. There is an annoying short between the chassis and superstructure that I can't trace but other than that its ready for the paint shop. Built by Samhongsa in Korea and comes with the original box and padding. If it doesn't meet your expectations, return for a full refund, less shipping.
