Description
This listing is for a Meccano Car Constructor Outfit No 1 complete with all the alternative body parts for different vehicles. It comes in the made up form of the “Road Racer” with torpedo back. The alternative parts allow it to be transformed into a, Sports Tourer with hood, a Sports Tourer with tonneau cover, a Saloon, in 2 or 4 seat versions of the above etc. The parts of this constructor outfit are in enameled black and red. An instruction leaflet is also part of the listing, the coloured book in the background to the above images is not included, but illustrates the various alternatives. The car has a working and powerful clockwork motor complete with key. The images show the great condition of this outfit, the paintwork is in very good condition, no rusting, and very little paint loss. The first images shows two dents to the bonnet top, but the paint is undamaged and dents easily knocked out I feel. The underside body image shows part A1123 ‘spring for track rod’ has been replaced by a very serviceable alternative part. Whist incomplete and torn, the included Instructions do contain a lot of detail, and most importantly, the,’ outfit parts list’, of 30 parts in various quantities. In my calculation only the celluloid windscreen insert is missing, along with 2 spanners! Part A1123 has been replaced, part A1214 the steering wheel and column is damaged. [The instructions,” say, change direction by moving the wheels by hand and not turning the steering wheel”-- for now obvious reasons!] This can be replaced by a replica part @ £ GBP 5.00 [address supplied]. One saloon door [not in use] has a lug with the bolt hole missing, one front wheel needs re-bushing. Tyres are sound with ’Meccano Made in England’ moulded into the white rubber, discs undamaged and bushes on 3 still fine. There is no box. The above images show the car in really splendid order, and all those alternative parts as detailed in the instructions, laid out for checking. Outside a boxed ‘as supplied’ outfit, I cannot think of a “Played with toy” over 70 years old that could be in better and more original condition than this one; which was found in a very recent estate clearance. It is hoped that these images will assist prospective buyers in confirming their own opinions on provenance, age, condition and quality of the item shown, and they form an essential part of the description.
