Description
This is a nicely made parabolic microphone.............The dish is about 22" in diameter and 6" deep and made of clear, UV resistant, shatterproof Polyethylene plastic. The dish has good clarity and may have very slight irregularities due to thermoforming process. The reflective surface is quite smooth and it performs very well. The dish has the shape of a perfect parabola with a focal length of 4". It is a quality dish that is built to last. The Microphone is an active condenser mic that operates on a 9V battery (included), which is only active when plugged in. The mic draws a very tiny current which makes the battery last for weeks and weeks even when left on. The mic is designed for use with a variety of small recording or audio amplifying devices that accept input from an ordinary microphone. Devices include cassette tape recorders, MP3 recorders, and laptop computers. The mic cable has a male 1/8" phone connector which plugs into the battery box. Output from the battery box is a female 1/8" phone plug which is for connecting your recorder/amplfier. The microphone is fixed to a treaded shaft which protrudes out the back of the parabola. This gives you many options for mounting. A handle is not supplied, but user can make a simple handle or bracket for mounting to a camera tripod as shown. About the sound: This thing works great, and the sound is very clear! I use a simple tape recorder for a field monitor. You will be very impressed at the amount of sound amplification and directionality you get from this microphone. Condenser mic specs:Impedance: 1 kOhmFrequency range: 20hz-to15khz Sensitivity: -64dB Signal-to-noise ratio: +60dB Max SPL: 120dB Here are the results of my super-scientific outdoor test: I could clearly hear the sound of someone lightly rubbing two fingers together from at least 50 ft away. I easily heard a squirrel chewing on corn from 50+ feet. I had it pointed at a wood birdhouse and could clearly hear the chicks chirping inside. Applications are endless.....very fun to have around. The tape recorder, camera tripod, mic handle and headphones that are shown in the pictures are not included in the auction. Good luck bidding, please email me any questions, and thank you very much. ALSO.....if you are interested only in the dish for use with your own microphone, antenna, or other science project ideas, I have parablic dishes available sold separately. The cost for a dish is $32.00 + shipping. I may have some listed at this time, please check my other items. If you do not see a listing, please contact me and I will be glad to set up a separate buy-it-now listing.
